Innovation in Action: How Altogether Care is Using Smart Technology to Deliver Better, Safer Care

At Altogether Care, we believe that great care is about staying connected – not only emotionally, but intelligently. As part of our commitment to improving quality of life for those we support, we’ve embraced smart, sensor-based technology to help us deliver safer, more personalised, and more proactive care.

This innovation is already transforming the way we work – and earning recognition along the way. Earlier this year, our Support Manager Chelsey Allright was named a winner at the Dorset Care Awards 2025 for her leadership in implementing technology-enabled care (TEC) across our Dorset branches. Her project demonstrated how technology, when used thoughtfully, can improve outcomes for both clients and their families.

Smarter Support, Greater Independence

The discreet sensor systems we’ve integrated allow us to understand a person’s normal daily routine, such as movement, hydration, or sleeping patterns – without the need for invasive monitoring. When a deviation from the usual activity is detected, the system raises an alert, enabling carers to step in early and provide appropriate support.

This approach helps us move from reactive to proactive care. We’re no longer just responding to issues – we’re spotting them early, tailoring care plans accordingly, and avoiding unnecessary interventions.

In one powerful example, Chelsey used data from the system to assess a client’s activity over time. She found that their independence had significantly improved – so much so that the number of daily care visits could be safely reduced from three to one. The client was able to maintain their independence with confidence, while their family gained valuable peace of mind knowing support was always there if needed.

Flexible and Affordable Options

Technology-Enabled Care is available as an optional add-on to existing care packages, with pricing tailored to each person’s needs. The cost covers the smart equipment and ongoing monitoring, but often works out more affordable than additional in-person visits – offering peace of mind and support in a cost-effective way.

Keeping Families Connected

Another advantage of these systems is how they support communication between care providers and families. With real-time dashboards and optional mobile app access, family members can stay updated on their loved one’s wellbeing – turning routine check-ins into more meaningful, informed conversations.

This is especially valuable for families who live far away or are juggling their own commitments. It gives peace of mind and creates a stronger circle of care around the individual.

Making Care More Personal

From smart home sensors to wearable emergency alert devices, the technology we use enables truly tailored support. Our carers can be more responsive, confident, and focused – because they’re working with data that helps them understand what each person really needs, in the moment.
